So. I haven't blogged in a while because I feel like nothing's going on. I feel like we're stuck in a holding pattern. We were originally afraid that our flooring and cabinets were going to hold things up because we were a little late getting things rolling on those (that's on me more than anyone else, or at least I'm being a big girl and taking responsibility). Apparently it's a busy time for flooring installation, so we were a few weeks out on the installation schedule after we made our final flooring decisions. But there were a lot of things that our builder needed to get done before flooring started, chiefly among those being (1) making sure all the subfloor was level and ready for tile and hardwood; and (2) getting the electrical hooked up and the A/C running so the floors won't get ruined by the lack of climate control. All of that should have been done during the three weeks we were waiting for our slot on the flooring installation schedule, but ALMOST NONE OF IT GOT DONE. We've been told for weeks that our electrical contractor will be here finishing up his work and getting the new electric pole installed and connected to the house, but he has YET to be here. The HVAC folks got the units put in, but they're pretty useless without electricity.

Phillip has had one (JUST one) of his guys here a few days over the past couple of weeks, but he's basically just been messing around with some trim stuff and not getting a lot done (to be fair, he can't do a lot by himself because it involves measuring, cutting, climbing scaffolding, etc. - hard and slow-going to do all that alone, which begs the question WHY he's been here alone so much!). Phillip finally had several guys here Tuesday and yesterday, and they sanded down some of the subfloor joints. They also got the wall torn out between the new and the old, but they didn't get the subfloor evened up between the two areas (which is obviously necessary before flooring can be installed).

The painters have also been back this week, and they got the front porch columns stained. Mainly they've been working on caulking the underside of all of the siding boards because they forgot to do it the first time (well, the painters didn't know they were supposed to do it because their boss forgot to tell them). So they have to repaint the whole house (but not at my cost, so whatevs).
The tile guys showed up today, as scheduled. We're told they can install the tile without the AC being on, but under no circumstance will they install the hardwood without climate control (nor do I want them to). They have taken on the responsibility for evening up the floor between the old and new parts of the house because, let's face it, if they don't do it, it looks like no one else is going to. Anyway, today they got some of the waterproofing done in the master shower, and they got the barrier stuff laid down in the utility room and the upstairs bathroom.

In OTHER ridiculous news, you may remember the saga of our front door. For the past FOUR MONTHS, the guy who made the door was supposed to be coming to get it and remove the offending dentil shelf. Apparently, however, he is on a perpetual fishing trip in Florida and can't quite find the time to conform the door to what we asked for and paid for. So a couple of days ago I came home during lunch to meet a guy who was giving me estimates on blinds and drapes. As soon as I walked in the door of the house, one of Phillip's guys holds up the shelf and asks kind of rudely, "Is there a reason you wanted this thing off?" My first instinct was to say, "Does it effing matter? It's my damn door, and if I want the shelf off, that's all you need to know." But I was somewhat nicer and instead said, "It was never supposed to be on there in the first place." He then said, "Well, I think it ruined the door when we took it off." My response was, "Umm, the door guy was supposed to come do it." "Well, he's still in Florida, so Phillip told us to take it off, and it took some chunks out of the door when we pulled it off." My response to that: "Well, Phillip can pay for a new door - this is not my problem." But of course it IS my problem in that I have to worry how long it'll take to get another door made. It looks like Phillip's guy has worked on the door today and tried to fill in the "chunks" so we don't have to get a new door, but if the blemish is obvious after they stain this door, we WILL be getting a new door. We paid entirely too much for this door to settle for any imperfections. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrating.
We've also had mucho frustration with granite this week, but this post is long enough, so I'll blog about that later.
